Kickoff can reveal that Maritzburg United have sensationally joined the race to sign veteran striker Ndumiso Mabena.
The former Orlando Pirates player recently became a free agent after his acrimonious departure from Royal AM on Wednesday.
United has now joined Chippa United in the race for Mabena's services after the Chilli Boys made initial inquiries into the player's availability.
"Maritzburg United have made contact, a source close to the player revealed to KickOff.
"John Maduka is a big fan of Mabena after working with him at both Royal AM and Bloemfontein Celtic.
"Chippa United are very interested. They have already made an official offer. The player is still assessing the situation and is considering all options before making a final decision.
Mabena's representative Machine Motloung confirmed his client received his clearance from Royal AM.
"We are still going to meet with Mabena and discuss his next destination," Motloung added.
"It's still too early to discuss any concrete offers as we just received his clearance yesterday."
The local transfer window shuts close on at midnight on Thursday, 22 September.
