Mauricio Affonso operation ruled him out for three months

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mauricio Affonso has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his groin injury last week.

Affonso has been struggling with injuries since joining Sundowns at the start of the season.

The Uruguayan targetman scored two goals to help The Brazilians lift the Telkom Knockout against Maritzburg United in Durban in December.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that Affonso will be out of action for the next three months after undergoing an operation last week.

"Mauricio did an operation. He will be back after three months. He will join us for pre-season," he said.

Meanwhile, midfielder Oupa Manyisa is closing in on a full recovery from his injury after starting light training last week.

Manyisa suffered an achilles tendon injury in October last year.
