Shitolo, who spent last season on loan away from Pirates, made a substitute appearance in Saturday's 2-0 Carling Black Label Champion Cup defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.
Ertugral has described the versatile 26-year-old as "a surprise package", and tips him for Bafana Bafana selection.
"Shitolo, for me, is a surprise package," said Ertugral. "I must say, Gladwin, I see him as a future Bafana player.
"I'm going out of the window now but the potential this player has is just amazing, and he just needs a little confidence because he's been sent away [on loan] a couple of times. He had a great season last season at Golden Arrows"
The Turkish-born coach also believes Shitolo is a "prototype" central defender, and will fit perfectly into the Pirates style of play.
"I think he's a very good centre-back because, the way Pirates have to operate, playing from the back you can't just have defenders who defend and their job is done," he added.
"We need to play from the back and he's a prototype player, you could see [yesterday against Chiefs] we had two or three situations where Eddie [Gyimah] went straight over the halfway line to attack.
"These are the type things we'd like to see from our defensive lines sometimes, and the prototype player is Gladwin."
The Shitolo returned to the Buccaneers at the end of the 2015-16 Premier Soccer League season after a successul loan spell at Golden Arrows where he played 28 league matches for the Durban-based outfit.
