Nyatama's unexpected release from Pirates last Friday came as a massive shock to many of the club's fans, who believed he still had plenty to offer.

However, the club explained in a press statement that the 32-year-old had requested to be released early prior to the end of his contract in June.

Meanwhile, reports recently surfaced that the former Bloemfontein Celtic captain is looking to join Highlands Park, who were inactive in the recently closed transfer window.

It now appears that the Lions of the North are indeed on the verge of snapping up Nyatama on a free transfer, with coach Owen da Gama trying his best not to give the news away.

"There are three players that are currently in the final phase of negotiations with the team, and unfortunately I put my penny's worth on the table to say, 'I'd like this player and I think he can help us'," said Da Gama when quizzed over the Nyatama reports on Tuesday.

"But when it comes to the contractual stuff, I stay away from that. So I think the team will definitely have a press conference. I think that's a question you can ask Mr Ngidi [club media officer], he's very capable and knows his job.

"I think there will definitely be a press conference or a press release very soon, and unfortunately it's not my place to [announce news]... But I love Musa, hey! With all my heart, I love him."
