Following a first-half that did not produce goals, Keagan Dolly finally broke the deadlock for Chiefs early in the second stanza before Linda Mntambo found the equaliser for Pirates three minutes before time.

However, Dolly gave Amakhosi victory with a stoppage time penalty, although Blom was chosen as the Man of the Match for his display at right-back.

"Tough game, I'd like to thank God for the strength that he gave us, the wisdom and the push that we gave, the fighting spirit as a team. I'd like to thank God for giving us the three points," Blom told SuperSport TV.

"Obviously we saw that they wanted to play in the space behind our defence, so second-half the coach told us whenever the head is up, we should drop to the centre and close the space behind."

Blom was asked if he knew anything about Dolly's celebration with the likes of Khama Billiat and made a vow to fans.

"The guys were discussing it at the changing room before the match, so I do know about the celebration," he said.

"It's always a great feeling winning matches but the Soweto Derby is a special one and I'm so happy. I'd like to thank God again for giving us the three points.

"Kaizer Chiefs supporters we promise that we will give our best each and every game, we'll have the fighting spirit that we displayed today on the field," he added.
