Petersen is currently just training but an update is due from the Chiefs technical team.

A former Kaizer Chiefs player has returned to Naturena and began training with the team ahead of their upcoming back-to-back Soweto Derby clashes.

Brylon Petersen was spotted back in his old colours at The Village on Wednesday as Chiefs hosted an open media day ahead of the big clash against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper was released upon the expiry of his contract with the club at the end of last season and has been clubless ever since, while completing his degree in mechanical engineering.

However, he joined Itumeleng Khune, who seemed to have recovered from injury that has seen him sit out his side's last three matches, and Daniel Akpeyi in preparation with coach Lee Baxter for the weekend's Telkom Knockout quarterfinal.

It has since been confirmed that the former Amakhosi reserve team shotstopper has not re-signed with the club but is rather helping out in the department while the likes of Bruce Bvuma and 16-year-old Bontle Molefe focus on their exams.

"No, he's just training. The rest we will get from the technical team, whether they've got other intentions, but he's just coming to help with training," Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa tells KickOff.com.

The Glamour Boys have enjoyed a rich vein of form of late, maintain their place at the summit of the Absa Premiership standings while brushing aside reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns in their most recent encounter, after earlier eliminating Cape Town City from the league cup the weekend prior.

They face Pirates at a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon - kick-off is scheduled for 15h30.
