The Buccaneers held on for a 2-1 victory at Orlando Stadium this weekend, with Chippa ending the game with 10 men after Thamsanqa Sangweni’s late sending off.
The result lifted Pirates into the top half of the Absa Premiership standings, albeit on goal difference, and Jonevret was pleased with the result, if not the mistakes they seemed to creep into their game.
“I’m happy with the first-half, we defended well, didn’t give them [Chippa United] too many chances, we scored one beautiful goal, should have scored one or two more,” the Swede told SuperSport after the game.
“But a mistake [letting Chippa score before half-time], we were a little bit sloppy there last minute, and it's 1-1 at half-time, and then it’s two [goals to Pirates] and it’s a new game again. Could we have gone into the locker room at 1-0 there, and maybe play a little bit smart?
“In the end, happy with three points, we closed the gap [to the top eight] like we talked about before the game, so overall a good week: two wins and a draw, so we are on our way.”
