Orlando Pirates have issued a statement after midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch was arrested on charges of domestic violence at Midrand Police Station on Monday.
KickOff.com broke the news of Lorch's arrest earlier on Monday morning, and later confirmed that he had been released on R2 000 bail in the afternoon.
The club has since released a statement over the incident involving the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season, who was recently suspended by the club over a breach of "team protocols".
The Buccaneers, however, refused to issue any comment on the matter, which is still under investigation by the SA Police Service, but reaffirmed their stance on gender-based violence.
"Orlando Pirates Football Club is aware of an alleged incident involving Thembinkosi Lorch," read the club statement.
"This matter is currently in the hands of the authorities. As a club we cannot comment further except to say that we condemn all forms of violence, especially violence against women and children. We support the rights of each and every individual but we strongly condemn violence.
"This country has witnessed some of the most appalling cases of GBV and we do not take this matter lightly, however we need to respect the process undertaken by the authorities and allow the law to take its course."
Pirates will need to make decisions on the futures of several players for next season
