The DStv Premiership’s only hope as representation at the Qatar World Cup has evaporated as Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori failed to make the Ghana squad.

Ofori had been SA football's solitary hope to carry the DStv Premiership flag at the 2022 World Cup but has been left disappointe after being omitted from Ghana’s final 26-man squad.

The Black Stars’ squad was announced on Monday with head coach Otto Addo leaving out Ofori due to an ongoing knee injury strain that he has been battling with.

Ofori missed four games last month due to injury before returning to play in the MTN8 final win over AmaZulu on November 5.

He was also forced out of the Carling Black Label Cup this past weekend due to injury.

The 29-year-old arrived at one of Pirates’ training sessions at Orlando Stadium last week with a strapping on his knee.

At the last World Cup in 2018, Daniel Akpeyi was the only player from the PSL.

He has kept seven clean sheets in 13 appearances this season for Pirates and was in goals in Ghana’s last friendly match against Nicaragua at the end of September after sitting on the bench in the defeat to Brazil just days earlier.

Ofori was in contention for the first-choice jersey.

Ghana will play Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in their group.
