accreditation

Swallows FC missed the chance to move top of the promotion/relegation play-off table following a 2-1 loss to Cape Town All Stars on Saturday afternoon.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Lehlogonolo Matlou came in as the Dube Birds' two alterations, while Lesvin Stoffels, Ndiviwe Mdabuka, Kyle Peters and David Booysen were recalled by the hosts.

Matlou’s entry was nearly justified with 11 minutes played as he dropped a shoulder from a tight angle outside the area and forced a fine acrobatic save out of goalkeeper Peters.

Swallows issued further threats just towards the midway period when a scorching low strike from Dillon Solomons forced Peters to go down and smother the resultant attempt.

Igugu le Kapa steadily began to find their own just before the half-hour mark and witnessed a teasing free-kick from Sirgio Kammies and a snap first-time strike by Stoffels worrying the Dube Birds.

After Mwape Musonda entered for Kagiso Malinga in the second half, Swallows carved out another threat as a rasping drive outside the box from Mahlatsi forced a strong block from Peters.

Igugu le Kapa worked an equally telling save from February minutes apart as the shot-stopper shifted about on his goal-line and stupendously palmed a first-time header from Stoffels.

The Dube Birds nonetheless broke clear midway through the second half after Grant Margeman controlled a square pass outside the box and fired into the bottom-corner.

Igugu le Kapa kept calm and levelled two minutes to go after Ronaldo Maarman opened space from afar following a loose ball by Wandisile Letlabika and drilled into the top corner.

Another error from Letlabika in the area this time led to the conceding of a penalty as he handled an incoming cross, and Mdabuka stepped forth and fired home to hand the host victory right at the death.
