Richards Bay moved back to second spot in the DStv Premiership table after a last-gasp 1-0 win over Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.

The Citizens made three changes from their last league outing against Golden Arrows, as Mpho Makola, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Wayde Lekay were recalled.

Bay, on the other hand, were made only one alteration following their draw against Maritzburg United, as Sibusiso Mthethwa was brought back.

City were on the front foot in the opening exchanges and Khanyisa Mayo had a chance to give them an early lead after going through on goal but he fired his shot straight at goalkeeper Salim Magoola.

The home side also had chances as the game opened up but the combination of Mayo and Darwin Gonzalez was causing problems for Richards Bay and on the half-hour mark Gonzalez had a shot smothered by Magoola after a link up with Mayo.

Eric Tinkler's charges gained momentum and came close to breaking the deadlock shortly before the interval but Magoola made a double save to keep out a free-kick by Lyle Lakay and denied Makola from the rebound.

City were forceful coming from the break and Mdantsane thought he had put his side ahead just before the hour-mark with a stunning volley that found the back of the net but the goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up.

The Natal Rich Boyz, however, were giving as much as they got as on 66 minutes Luvuyo Menela came close to breaking the deadlock with a strike from range that brought the best out of shot-stopper Darren Keet.

With the game on the edge, Bay needed fresh legs in their midfield in the last 13 minutes as Ndiviwe Mdabuka replaced Abel Mabaso and the Citizens also brought in Taahir Goedeman in place of Mdantsane for fresh legs in attack.

The Natal Rich Boyz seized their opportunity at the death, as they snatched the winner after Sakhile Hlongwa's effort deflected off Thato Mokeke and found the back of the net.
