Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic faces an increasingly uncertain future at DStv Premiership side Royal AM three months after initially joining and without having made a competitive appearance for the club.

Nurkovic signed for Royal AM as far back as May weeks after Kaizer Chiefs failed to meet the agreed deadline to activate the option to extend his stay by a further year on his existing contract.

The Serbian's signing by Royal AM was initially publicly denied by officials within the club which eventually proved accurate.

The 30-year-old spent three years at Chiefs starting off brightly with 14 goals in his first season before a contract renegotiation, strong interest from the Middle East, with injury concerns hampering his early start.

Now since moving to Royal AM, Nurkovic is yet to neither play nor be named in any match-day squad for official games.

Royal AM have so far played 13 games across three competitions – DStv Premiership, MTN8, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nurkovic was only fielded in the Macufe Cup ‘friendly-match’ against his former club and is now set to walk away from Royal AM at the end of the month without having played due to injury concerns which forced him to spend time at his residence in Johannesburg instead of KwaZulu-Natal.

KickOff can reveal that Nurkovic’s club future is now in the hands of lawyers who are seeking to iron out an amicable termination of contract to suit both parties.

Some sticking points relate to the non-payment of compensation owed to the Serbian as per the contract that he signed in May, and which came into effect from July 1 after the expiry of his deal at Chiefs.

Nurkovic's contract has already been annulled and is due to walk out at the end of October subject to the conclusion of all outstanding issues under discussion.

The issue of Nurkovic’s pending departure leaked to the media last week.

Last week the club’s technical department confirmed Nurkovic’s presence at training and referred further questions on the issue to management.
