Royal AM co-coach Khabo Zondo has played down any managerial tensions that is believed to have led to Dan Malesela's return to Marumo Gallants.

Malesela was on Tuesday announced as the new head coach at Gallants  to replace Frenchman Romain Folz.

"I don't know yet about his departure as there are things I cannot confirm and if such things happened you would expect the club's management to tell you," Zondo tells KickOff.

"So if it's something you have read in the papers like I do, I'd not like to comment because the club has not said anything to me.

"What I know is that coach Dan went home to attend to some family issues, at least that's what he told me.

"All that I know is that he is still a member of the club and that whatever is being reported is not true."

According to sources, Malesela resigned as he was unhappy with the co-coaching model and often did not share the same vision with Zondo and fellow co-coach Abram Nteo.

"My relationship with coach Dan, as coaches we are okay as we didn't have much time to spend outside of football, so our life was about coaching," Zondo added.

"Co-coaching in my opinion works if you have 40 to 45 players to deal with.

"Some coaches might like it, where some might not but, at the end of the day you need to decide if it's about you or the club.

"It's working at Sundowns, where they are difficult to beat as they are getting maximum support from every angle.

"I'm sure the likes of Steve Khompela, Manqoba Mnqithi and Rulani Mokwena bounce ideas off of one another for the sake of the success of the club.

"I've been in a co-coaching role before, with Pitso Mosimane at Bafana Bafana.

"I've done it with Simon Ngomane in the Ama-Binneplaas team.

"So, I've never had a problem with co-coaching."
