SA U-23 and Orlando Pirates player Abbubaker Mobara questions the value of versatility

The Orlando Pirates newcomer operated at right-back for the Olympic side as they drew 1-1 with Bidvest Wits in a practice match yesterday.

Coach Owen da Gama seems to have identified Erick Mathoho and Rivaldo Coetzee as his main centre-back pairing and Mobara concedes he will have to adjust accordingly.

“My first time coming here I thought of being a centre-back in the national team but I think that time won’t come ever so I’ll settle for right-back, midfield and anywhere else on the field,” the 22-year-old tells snl24.com/kickoff.

The former Ajax defender feels his versatility is not necessarily an asset in his career.

“No [I don’t think being versatile helps my career]. I don’t think so because for me as a player I’m not sure if the coach has a settled position for me. I mean to move around like that is like... it makes me confused of what type of a player you bring in,” Mobara concludes.
