Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has provided an update on the injury of midfielder and club captain Linda Mntambo.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder has been a notable absentee for Sekhukhune since the resumption of the DStv Premiership. He’s missed clashes against AmaZulu, Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs due to an injury sustained in training.
Mntambo has been a key figure for Babina Noko this season, making 12 appearances for the side’s 12 games before the FIFA break.
"With the injuries, we still have quite a few players that are on the way back and are on the final phases of their rehab program," Truter told club's media.
"Specifically Linda, who is getting there slowly but surely. He’s a big player for us. In our team, in our system, he’s the captain of the club, so welcoming him back in the team will be a big plus for us.
"But yes, at this stage, he’s close but ready yet. We also need to look at match minutes to manage him. The pain is better. The swelling is down. The medical team is happy with the progress he's making and I can’t wait to have him back."
Following a disastrous start to the season under Kaitano Tembo, Truter was roped in at the start of November with a mandate to rescue a side stuck at the bottom of the Premiership.
After a draw against AmaZulu and two consecutive wins against Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs respectively, Truter’s men are in 13 position on the log table and Truter is yet to taste defeat as the club’s head coach.
The side will be hoping to keep the momentum when they lock horns against Stellenbosch on Saturday.
