The Absa Premiership may be amongst the most lucrative leagues in Africa, but it falls outside the top-five, according to the latest rankings from the Confederation of Football (CAF).
The Premier Soccer League suffered a major blow on Thursday when it was confirmed that the league's main sponsor Absa will not be renewing their relationship after a 13-year association.

While the marketability of the South African top-flight will likely attract a new sponsor before the start of the 2020/21 campaign, it's been the performances of the biggest club's that's affected their overall ranking on the continent.
Based on the CAF five-year ranking system, leagues acquire points for their club's performances in the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

And with Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United the only notable club's who've made in-roads in the respective competitions over the past five years.
With an overall tally of 68.5 points, the South African top-flight is ranked in sixth place, which has a notable effect when seeding into the knock-out stages of the elite club competitions.
