SuperSport United Mamelodi Sundowns PSL Absa Premiership report

Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat were particularly impressive again – two thirds of the 'CBD – as Pitso Mosimane's side returned to top form.

The match was still goalless in the 33rd minute when referee Daniel Bannet made a decision to pull the players off the field until conditions improved due to heavy rain and lightning in Atteridgeville.

Play resumed after half-an-hour with the score still goalless in a game dominated in possession and chances by the Brazilians, who missed a few decent opportunities that came for Castro and Keagan Dolly.

SuperSport had their best moment of the match in the 39th minute when Thuso Phala shibobo'd Mzikayise Mashaba before firing wide from an acute angle.

Then moments later it was 1-0 to Sundowns as they hit Stuart Baxter's side with a quick counter-attack.

Denis Onyango caught the ball in defence and quickly bowled it out, Phala gathered it but then lost the ball cheaply to Castro, and the Colombian fed a through-ball to Mbekile, who was clean through on goal and simply picked his spot past Ronwen Williams, who had come way out of his penalty area into no-man's-land.

It was 1-0 to Sundowns at half-time.

SuperSport showed some signs of life in the second half as Dove Wome replaced Thato Mokeke, but still posed little threat to Mosimane's side, who remained largely in control.

That control was emphasised and elaborated when Teko Modise entered the fray in place of Themba Zwane in the 62nd minute. Immediately 'The General' showed some classy touches and got the crowd on its feet, changing the whole atmosphere inside the ground as Downs lifted their game further.

And that superiority paid off in the 75th minute when the hardworking Castro busted a gut to rob Wome in possession and release Billiat one-on-one with another beautiful pass. The Zimbabwean finished past Williams with aplomb, slotting into the top-right corner with his instep to make it 2-0.

The result sends Sundowns 10 points clear of second-placed Bidvest Wits and 13 ahead of defending champions Kaizer Chiefs and extends their unbeaten League run to 18 matches.
