SuperSport United have ruled out any possibility of releasing defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to Kaizer Chiefs during the current transfer window period in January.
Ditlhokwe signed a pre-contract with Amakhosi and is set to begin his journey with the club in July this year. The Botswana National Team captain has penned a four-year deal with the Soweto giants.
According to sources close to Chiefs, the club was keen to bring Ditlhokwe to Naturena this January, but that opportunity was turned down by SuperSport.
“He is not going. He is going to stay with SuperSport United until the end of the season. We are deeply disappointed with the way Kaizer Chiefs handled this issue and how they announced the signing of the player before a crucial match against Mamelodi Sundowns,” said an official at Matsatsantsa.
Meanwhile, SuperSport head coach Gavin Hunt has expressed his disappointment about the departure of the defender.
"Well obviously, I am very upset about him leaving because this should never happen. I wasn’t here but I know what should have happened and what did not happen, it’s very disappointing because you are losing a player that’s 24 and will only be at his best at 30 because he is centre- back,
“They become best as they get older. He has improved immensely since being here and has got two or three goals this year, he has defended well, and he has been a rock for the club. Ja, I am very disappointed,” said Hunt.
