Tebogo Moloi calls for Thembinkosi Lorch intervention at Orlando Pirates

Lorch has been in the media for all the wrong reasons of late, having been suspended by Pirates at the start of the 'bio-bubble' over a breach of protocol before his recent arrest over alleged domestic violence.

The 27-year-old, who is the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season, has also shown a massive decline in form as he contributed just three goals and five assists in the 2019/20 campaign.

His downward spiral, however, could perhaps be attributed to the club's thwarting of his potential move to Europe last year, according to Moloi, who feels the player needs to be let in on the reasons why he was not afforded an opprtunity to go abroad.

"It's exactly what happened to me when I was at Pirates, I got a chance to play for Austria Vienna and it fell through, and I became despondent," 'Tebza' tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"What Lorch is going through is exactly what Teko [Modise] went through, and sometimes clubs just need to make the players understand [why they aren't being sold].

"I mean, if Teko didn't join Mamelodi Sundowns, I don't think he would have bounced back from that disappointment [of not going abroad], but his move to Sundowns helped him a lot.

"But Lorch needs to be told that, 'Look, this will not be the last chance, there will be another chance, just keep working.' He also needs to be let in on the reasons the move didn't happen – maybe the offer was not good enough or the club was not suitable for him.

"It mustn't just be said, 'No!' And that's it. Because just getting a no, for a player of his stature, it will mess him up the way it has now.

"Sometimes not allowing a player's dream to be realised or come true requires you to sit down and talk to the player, and make him understand and feel valued and respected.

"But the way things are, they really need to move quickly to save the boy's career, otherwise the stories about him will continue week-in and week-out."
