Thembinkosi Lorch defends Orlando Pirates missed opportunities

Pirates were seen missing some sitters in their 2-0 victory over Black Leopards on Wednesday evening, with Justin Shonga in particular coming under fire therefor.

The Buccaneers, however, ultimately managed to see out a massive victory that took them three points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership table despite the frustration in front of goal.

Lorch, who bagged the man of the match award for his instrumental role in attack, defended that they cannot score all the shots they take but will eventually get there as they continue working with finishing coach Stephane Adam.

“Ja, I think it’s important to use those opportunities, but we can’t score all those opportunities – surely, we’ll at least get one or two,” said Lorch.

“But we’ll keep on practicing in the training ground with coach Stephane doing finishing, and it will come alright.

“We’re always doing extra training, maybe even Friday we’re going to have a finishing session but, like I said, it’s not all going to come now – but it will come.”

Having bagged his 13th goal of the season across all competitions, the 25-year-old insisted he has not set any target for himself but is merely focussing on helping the team now maintain their run that could see them lift the league title soon.

“Ah, no. I will just take it one game at a time, if [the goals] come then it comes. I’m not going to say, ‘I want to score how many goals,’ I just have to focus on each game as it comes and not put pressure on myself.”
