Bloemfontein Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema has given credit to Steve Komphela for making the club’s players strong mentally.
Komphela was in the hot seat at Celtic in the first half of the season, but resigned and took up the head coaching job at Golden Arrows. While he was at Celtic, Komphela was able to get the players to play their hearts out, even though there were issues of salaries and signing on fees not being paid.
He won the Absa Premiership coach of the month award for August, together with former Celtic player Alfred Ndengane, leaving a lasting impression in a short space of time.
He laid a solid foundation and Celtic have done pretty well since he left.
One thing I must commend the players on is the mentality they have. You know coach Steve instilled something and in the future these players will remember him,” Seema said after Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Polokwane City in Polokwane on Wednesday night.
“He has put the mentality in these guys, that if ever they become coaches they will know that tough times never last and if we try block out the external factors and focus on the job, we stand a good chance [to win games].”
Celtic, who are currently in ninth place on the standings, are targeting a top eight finish.
“We would love, regardless of the rollercoaster season we are having, to finish in the top eight. That would be the cherry on top and this will be the bunch of players that will go down in the history books. Many teams will be looking to have these players in their teams.”
