Willard Katsande: We better understand Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela

Amakhosi ended 2015/16 without silverware in Komphela's first season at Naturena.

However, Katsande is confident the Glamour Boys - who beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup last weekend - can rebound this campaign.

"The onus was on us as players to do introspection as well after last season's disappointing campaign," Katsande tells

"We are now trying to rectify things and we have a better understanding about the coach's philosophy. It's safe to say the players have a better level understanding of the coach's tactics and ideas. There is more togetherness and I think anybody from the outside can see this.

"It was always gonna take time for any player to adjust when a new coach comes in, you now. But with the coach being with the club in his second season we're definitely looking to turn the tables around. It's like we started from scratch last season but this season there is already a platform that's laid."

The Chiefs vice-captain says it is up to the senior players to guide the new signings at the club like Ramahle Mphahlele, Enocent Mkhabela and Lewis Macha.

"It's for us as players to build on that. Having said that it won't be easy for the new players coming in. That's why we will have to play our part to help the new guys get to that level of understanding as well."
