The 2008/09 campaign gets underway on Wednesday, August 27, though a fixture list has yet to be finalised after the recent promotion of Bay United to the top flight.
The date represents the latest the League has ever kicked-off since its inception for the 1996/97 season.
But fans will not have to wait until then for competitive action. The Top Eight competition, formerly known as the SAA Supa 8 Cup, kicks-off on August 9.
Although the tournament does not have a sponsor yet, it is believed an announcement in this regard in imminent. The eight teams participating this season are Supersport United, Ajax Cape Town, Santos, Mamelodi Sundowns, Free State Stars, Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates.
Meanwhile, the Telkom Charity Cup will take place on August 2. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were five teams still in the running for the four places, barring a late charge from the chasing pack.
Sundowns (36 146 votes), Chiefs (35 898) and Pirates (30 395) look certainties to make it, while Bloemfontein Celtic (26 684) and AmaZulu (25 718) are fighting it out for fourth spot.
The team with the next highest number of votes is Moroka Swallows (2 146).
