R5-million 'ready' for Supersport team to share

These promise was made yesterday by United Director of Football, Stan Matthews after Matsatsantsa beat Golden Arrows 2-0 at Super Stadium to retain their position at the top of the log.

Matthews said that although it was too early to start celebrating before Sunday, he wanted to congratulate coach Gavin Hunt and his players.

“This is Gavin Hunt’s first season with the team but he has done a fantastic job. It has been a good season, but we will only say ‘great’ after our game against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday.”

“We have already allocated R5 million to be shared by the team if we win the league on Sunday.”

However, what Matthews did not emphasise was that Supersport may well be able to start celebrating tonight, if third-placed Santos beat the other title chasers Ajax in a Cape Town Derby tonight.

The Urban Warriors trail Supersport by four points with a game in hand. If they fall tonight, champagne corks will be popping in Tshwane tonight.

If Ajax draws, they are still in with a big chance as they enjoy a better goal difference to Supersport. If they win, the title fight goes down to the wire at the weekend.

The PSL has already made their plans to present the Absa Premiership trophy should the race be undecided before Sunday.

The original trophy will travel to Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday where Supersport United will play Bloemfontein Celtic whilst a replica trophy will go down to the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban where Ajax Cape Town play are being hosted by Golden Arrows.

However, if Ajax win the League, the originally trophy will be officially handed to them on Monday next week.
