Richards gets off to a flying start

Richards played 69 minutes before being substituted, but he had already created a goal and caused chaos on the left wing during the 1-1 draw with Santos.

“It felt good starting my first game of the season after having waited for so long on the bench and fighting hard for a starting place at training. This season competition is even tougher on the left wing, and so it is obvious that I will have to work really very hard to play.

“That is why when given a chance you have to make the best of it and impress as there is no time to relax. But the coach had also already told us that everyone will get a chance, that’s why I have maintained my hard work with commitment at training,” says Richards.

This season the Students’ coach Roger De Sa has preferred using speed merchant Calvin Sosibo, while Danilo Julio and Noah Chivuta can also play on the wing.

Having suffered a terrible leg injury that kept him out of action for six months last season, his first at Milpark while at that stage on loan from Kaizer Chiefs, Richards hopes to avoid injuries and play regularly.

“I am now looking at getting more game time quickly because I still hold the hope of playing in the national team. When you play regularly that is also when you can keep the dream of going abroad intact,” he says.

The 24 year-old winger already has a single Bafana Bafana cap.
