Samara beat Lokomotiv Moscow 3-1, while Rubin beat Dinamo Moscow away.
The wins leave them in 12th and 9th respectively in the 16-team League.
With Rostov relegated, it is now a three-way fight between Kuban, Lutch-Energia and Spartak Nalchik to survive the drop.
Booth says it was a massive weight off his shoulders, but the win did not come easily.
“We were 1-0 down at half time, and the mood in the dressing room was as if somebody had died,” he said“We came back strongly, and equalised, but then we conceded a penalty, but fortunately Osaze [Odemwingie – Nigerian international] had his shot saved.
“Then we scored two minutes later, and again soon afterwards, to get the points.
“Meanwhile Kuban lost at home to CSKA, so we knew we were safe.”
Despite the fact that Samara have only three points more than Kuban, the league is determined by points, then wins, then head-to-head results, and Samara’s win gives them 8 wins, while Kuban can only manage seven, even if they win their last match.
