Al Ahly and Bafana Bafana attacker Percy Tau made his long awaited return to competitive football action as his side recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Bank El-Ahly on Tuesday night.
The speedy attacker was brought on as a late substitute and got 13 minutes of action after being sidelined since mid-December due to a muscle injury. Tau has endured a difficult season at the Club of the Century, having missed nine games so far due to injuries.
With four wins from their last five outings, Al Ahly are sitting at the top of the Egyptian Premier League and enjoy a five-point lead over second-place Future at the half-way stage of the season.
The striker's return to action comes just in time for Al Ahly's Club World Cup campaign set to kick-off on 1 February with a clash against Auckland City.
Tau's return also comes amid reports of a potential return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with Mamelodi Sundowns tipped to be favourites' to land the 28-year-olds' signature.
Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has not been shy about his admiration of Tau and confirmed in August last year that the club would jump at the opportunity to re-sign the striker.
"He [Percy Tau] is my son. My son knows that his father loves him and we come a long way," said Mokwena at the time.
"And if there is a chance to return to SA, then, like with Bongani Zungu, that [re-signing Tau] would be something we would explore for sure."
Al Ahly will meet Mamelodi Sundowns on the matchday three of the CAF Champions League on 25 February and it remains to be seen whether Tau will don the fiery red of Al Ahly or the classy yellow of Mamelodi Sundowns on the day.
