After featuring from the bench on 11 previous occasions in the league this season, Zungu was handed his first start in the competition since his move from Amiens in October for Rangers' clash against bottom-of-the-log side Hamilton.
The Bafana Bafana star was included in manager Steven Gerrard's run-on XI with regular starters Ryan Jack and Steven Davis rested, and featured for an hour before being replaced by the former with just under an hour of the match played.
In the buildup to the encounter, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star, who has also made three starts across the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League this season, admitted he was excited at the chance to finally make his first start in the league.
"I’m very excited to start," Zungu told Sky Sports h/t The Scotsman. "The manager saw something different from what the team has when he signed me so it is a chance for me to show my quality... Games are not easy here in Scotland. Every game has challenges. We expect a tough game and respect every opponent."
