Former SuperSport United striker Darren Smith has won the Golden Boot award in Finland's second division.
The 2020 Finnish Ykkonen season drew to a close on Sunday evening, with Smith, 24, being crowned the league's top goalscorer for the campaign after he netted 18 goals in 22 appearances for Ekenas IF.
The Ajax Cape Town academy product, who made six DStv Premiership appearances during his time with Matsatsantsa, ended the season four goals clear of runner-up Aalto Juuso, who netted 14 goals for the season with Musan Salama.
Smith's tally included a prolific spell of seven goals in his final five matches of the campaign, during which he also score his first professional hat-trick, Ekenas' comprehensive 3-0 win over Mikkelin Palloilijat.
The Cape Town-born striker's contract with Ekenas is set to expire at the end of the year, and snl24.com/kickoff has it on good authority that he is currently in negotiations with at least four clubs in the Finnish top flight.
