Mokotjo returned to The Bees’ starting line-up over the weekend and played an influential role in their 1-1 draw away to Leeds United.

The 27-year-old was awarded the Man of the Match accolade as he recorded stats of an 88.7 percent pass success rate, coming out strongest in six of the nine duels he entered into, while also winning two of his three tackle attempts throughout the 90 minutes.

It was a welcome performance for Mokotjo, who has been in and out of the starting line-up in recent weeks but says he will continue working hard to gain more game-time.

“I haven’t gotten to play a lot of games, so I’ve just been working hard to get into the team and today I think all the hard work paid off,” Mokotjo told his club’s website.

“But I still need to keep working hard and be consistent with my performances. So, I’m just happy with this one, and I’m really appreciative of starting this game.”

The former FC Twente pivot will be returning to South Africa this week as he joins the Bafana camp for the upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier double header against Seychelles.

Mokotjo is hoping Baxter caught a glimpse of his showing against The Peacocks as he looks to maintain the momentum in the starting line-up, while he has welcomed the short recess from his club’s packed schedule to see his family back home again.

“It’s always an honour [being called up to Bafana] and, going back after playing such a good game, I think will say something to the national team coach too,” he added.

“But, yeah, I know when I’m at the national team what my job is, but all the experience I get here [at the club] I get to use it there too. So, I’m very happy to go back [home].

“Everyone needs a break from the many games we play here in the Championship, so it’s very nice to get to see the family and go away to some nice countries out there.”

Bafana will host The Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday (15h00) before travelling away for the second round Group E clash on Tuesday (13h30 kick-off – SA time).
