Kamohelo Mokotjo returns to Brentford's startling line-up

Following his display for Bafana Bafana in their Nations Cup qualifying goalless draw with Libya in Durban, Mokotjo was an unused substitute in his side’s 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic over the weekend.

Yet the 27-year-old was named in the starting line-up for Tuesday evening’s clash away at Ipswich Town for just the second time this season, and his first start since being handed the captain’s armband against Blackburn Rovers almost a month ago, as part of the club’s rotational skipper policy.

Mokotjo played the full 90 minutes and completed the most key passes (84%) of any player on the pitch in his seventh league appearance this campaign. Yet despite the opponent’s lowly ranking – and failure to win a game so far this season – Brentford could only manage a 1-1 draw, as Neal Maupay’s opener was cancelled out by Kayden Jackson 17 minutes from time.

The draw sees Brentford temporarily remain in second place on the Championship standings after eight games played, with last year’s ninth-placed side enjoying a decent start to the season as they push for a top-six spot, which ensures a promotional Premier League play-off berth.

Brentford are next in action on Saturday as they travel to eighth-placed Derby County.
