Kgotso Masangane admits the meteoric rise from the Govan Mbeki tournament to European football in the space of a few months has been surreal.

Masangane, 20, scored his first Virsliga goal on Sunday in just his second start in senior professional football which symbolised much more than just an opening goal for FS Metta.

The diminutive attacker went from playing for Zone Mavo in eMbalenhle to signing his first professional contract and scoring his first goal in the Latvian top-flight with no previous professional or academy experience - in the mere space of three months.

This after he was highly recommended by South Africa U-23 wing-back Kabelo Seriba, after catching his eye at the Govan Mbeki tournament during his off-season from the Northern European outfit.

Speaking to KickOff, the Balfour-born starlet could not hide his delight at his recent breakthrough, while Seriba confirmed that his compatriot has made quite an impression since his arrival.

"I feel great for scoring my first professional football goal," Masangane said. "I'm honestly just so grateful for the opportunity the club [FS Metta] handed me here, I am genuinely just so happy."

Metta teammate Seriba added: "Playing with him in the same line-up it was a great honour because I believe he's a great football player - he delivers a lot for the team and stands out as an individual as well.

"He had a great performance [against Spartak] and I'm really looking forward to what he can achieve for the rest of the season.

"In terms of the management, they have been really impressed with the hard work he's put in as he's gelled with the team so effortlessly and the adaptation to senior professional football has been rapid."

Seriba and Masangane's next league outing arrives this Friday when Andris Riherts's side face off against Jelgava at 17:00 (SAST).
