Luther Singh reveals FC Copenhagen setback after Bafana Bafana call-up

Luther Singh has revealed that his progress with Danish giants FC Copenhagen suffered a major setback following his most recent Bafana Bafana call-up.

Singh was part of South Africa's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana earlier this month and was named in starting XI for the opening match against The Warriors in Harare.

Bafana Bafana ultimately took four points from the two matches but the positive results were soon overshadowed for Singh after passport issues prevented him from returning to Denmark until last week.

"It's been very frustrating for the club and myself that there was a break in the progress I was making with FCK due to the passport problems," he told the club's website.

"They have been solved now and I am working hard on the training ground to get back up to speed.

"Of course I kept going while I was in South Africa, but it was not possible to train at the same level you can in Copenhagen, so therefore I have had a small backlog."

"Both the coaches and I obviously had different hopes to how it has gone so far. Fortunately, I am ready to train at full pressure and I feel progress all the time, so it has been the right thing for me to stay focused on training rather than letting the frustrations take over."

Singh has managed just 19 minutes of game time across two appearances since joining Copenhagen from SC Braga and could miss more action for the team next month after he was once again named in the latest provisional Bafana Bafana squad.

South Africa are set to take on Ethiopia in a double-header on 9 and 12 October 2021 and it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old will face similar travel complications should he be chosen in the final squad.
