Pitso Mosimane linked with Senegal job

Mosimane's long-term future at Al Ahly is yet to be secured after contract negotiations between him and the club were reportedly stalled by the Egyptian giants pending the results from next month's FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach's deal with Al Ahly is set to expire at the end of the current campaign and it was previously claimed that the parties were close to agreeing to an extension of his term.

Circumstances now appear to have changed, much to the apparent frustration of Mosimane whose recent comments to the media regarding the situation are believed to have annoyed the Al Ahly management.

The club is said to want to wait until the end of the Club World Cup before making a decision while the South African coach is eager to secure his future, particularly after guiding the club to back-to-back CAF Champions League crowns.

Amid the ongoing impasse, club legend Ahmed Shobier has alleged that Mosimane wants to know where he stands in order to plot his next career move and sensationally claimed that the 57-year-old has been approached to take over the Senegal national team job.

"He enjoys his life in Egypt and the stardom that comes with coaching Al Ahly. He sees that his successes with the team should’ve pushed the board to hand him a six-year contract. He’s surprised how they are still discussing the idea of ??extending his contract or not...

"...It is certain that Al Ahly is currently not extending Mosimane's contract until the end of the World Cup, and Mosimane doesn’t want to wait."

Mosimane took charge of Al Ahly in October 2020 and has won 53 of his 74 matches in charge, winning two CAF Champions League Crowns, two CAF Super Cup titles and an Egyptian Cup.
