Le Havre appeared to be leading the race to secure Percy Tau's signature ahead of tonight's transfer deadline after head coach Lukas Elsner, who worked with the Bafana Bafana forward in Belgium, confirmed his side's interest in a potential deal.

The French second division side were reported to have been chasing Tau's services on an initial loan deal with an option to sign him from Al Ahly on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

However, the club now appears to have backtracked on a move for the 28-year-old after reports emerged from France claiming that too many representatives had attempted to involved themselves in the potential move.

While a potential transfer to France remains a possibility, Paris Normandie, who were among the first to link Tau to Le Havre, have reported that the club has now cooled its interest due to these developments.
