Ayanda Patosi has made history in Iran after inspiring Foolad FC to their first-ever Hazfi Cup title.

Patosi played a starring role for Foolad as the club overcame his former employer, and record seven-time champions, Esteghlal in a dramatic penalty-shootout victory in the Hazfi Cup final on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, whose goal in the semi-final ensured his side's spot in a first-ever final, helped the club take their record-breaking run even further by winning the prestigious cup competition for the first time ever.

Patosi's role in the final has seen him add another winners' medal to his collection, which includes Belgian Cups from his time with Lokeren, and the MTN 8 title he won with Cape Town City in 2018.

Lorenzo Gordinho (Viborg, Denmark)

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Gordinho made his first appearance of this season during Viborg’s 4-1 defeat to Silkeborg on Friday. The centre-back is enjoying his first campaign in the Danish top-flight after helping the club secure promotion last season.

Darren Smith, (FC Honka, Finland)

Smith helped to snap FC Honka’s four-match winless running by scoring within three minutes of coming off the bench during the club’s comprehensive 4-1 win over Ilves on Sunday. The ex-SuperSport United striker has now scored five goals in 22 appearances across all competitions for the campaign.

Thibang Phete & Sphephelo Sithole (Belenenses, Portugal)

Bafana Bafana defender Phete and countryman Sithole were both in action in Portugal for Belenenses over the weekend where the duo suffered a 2-0 defeat to giants FC Porto in their Primeira Liga opener.


Lars Veldwijk (Suwon FC, South Korea), Gift Links (Aarhus, Denmark) Liam Jordan (Helsingborgs, Denmark), Yanga Baliso (Mariehamn, Finland) Siyanda Xulu (Hapoel Tel Aviv), Ryan Moon, Tashreeq Matthews & Luke Le Roux (all Varbergs, Sweden) were also in action over the weekend.
