The event takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, November 8 and starts at 18h30.
The Safa Colours and Awards Committee, under the convenorship of Professor Lesole Gadinabokao is responsible for awarding on merit, the Association colours and other merit awards to candidates nominated through a prescribed internal process.
The Committee has established six categories to recognise and acknowledge and the order of merit for the Safa Awards will be in Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
The Safa Regional Awards category will focus on governance, efficiency in administering competitions, and the development programmes put in place by the regions.
The Competitions Awards category will award players who have excelled in the various Safa competitions, namely the Metropolitan LFA League, the SAB Regional League and the Vodacom Promotional League.
The Safa Players Awards (National teams category) will honour players who have performed well and consistently in all our national teams over the past year.
The Refereeing Awards will recognise referees past and present, who have made a mark on the world stage, and also pay tribute to female referees in the game.
The Coaching Awards will look and honour the tacticians that have and are continuing to develop the game of football in our country.
The Presidential Awards category is a special one, and nomination of candidates is the responsibility of the Awards and Colours Committee. People from outside football can be nominated for this award.
Candidates will be drawn from the following areas -Life time achievement, outstanding administration in football and/or sports, outstanding footballer, sponsors and media groups.
Commending on the announcement, Safa CEO Raymond Hack says the Awards are long overdue, but the timing is just as perfect , considering that South Africa is about to host the biggest single sporting event in the World, the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
“We have a great event in prospect, as Safa we have achieved a lot since readmission to Caf and Fifa in 1991, and the Safa Awards will help us to not only highlight our achievements, but also to recognise the role that many people have played in the development of football even before 1991.
“We have a proud history, and going forward, there will be public participation in the process,” explains Hack.
