Doctor Khumalo was appointed coach at the beginning of the year, but the legend only took charge for one game, against Zimbabwe, before getting married and electing not to travel with the Amajimbos team to Gambia.
Former coach Serame Letsoaka was then temporarily brought in and travelled with the team to the finals but has since reverted back to his post as the Amajita coach while doubling up as the Amaglug-glug assistant coach.
It is believed that Khumalo never had a contract with Safa and thus was able to decline the trip to Gambia, although Safa claim he was only appointed on an interim basis.
Khumalo said recently that he has not heard a word from Safa since then.
But with the Namibia tournament taking place from December 8-15 it remains a mystery as to why Safa have not disclosed any moves towards an official appointment.
Kick Off has learned that Supersport United development coach Solly Luvhengo is a front runner for the job, along Orlando Pirates’ youth coach Teboho Moloi.
Amajimbos have been drawn in Group C of the 12-nation tourney and have Madagascar and Mauritius as their opponents.
