Santana looks ahead

Santana said his side had barely one week to practice before the match and as such knew it was going to be difficult against Nigeria.

“I will not say we played badly, but eventually we lost. We can only go back now to prepare for our next game. We had little time to prepare for this match but there are many more and we will just prepare ourselves for them.

“We have lost to Nigeria in Abuja and we will still play against them at home so we must prepare for a game like that. As far as we are concerned, this one is over,” Santana said.

He would not talk about the absence of striker Benni McCarthy.

“The South African national team played against Nigeria, so I will rather talk about the team than talk about an individual,” Santana said.

Bafana play Equatorial Guinea at home on June 7 in their next encounter, a game that is shaping up as a must-win encounter.
