Santos aim for first home win

Kick off is at 20h00.

Three draws against difficult opponents in the form of Free State Stars, Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns has left Jean-Marc Ithier’s team with a haul of just three points from their home league matches thus far, but the People’s Team will be confident of doubling that tally against the league’s bottom placed club.

Thanda are yet to win away in the league this season, having lost all three of their matches on the road. Coach Roger Palmgren has put a halt to the run of losses that marked the start of the campaign, picking up five out of a possible 12 points in the last four league matches, a respectable tally for a team struggling in the lower reaches of the log, but the fact remains that the club have won just one Absa Premiers League match thus far.

The same, however, can be said for Santos, although they are four points clear of Thanda thanks to their ‘draw specialists’ tag that has seen them end six of their nine league games in a stalemate – at least the People’s Team can say they are hard to beat.

Statistically there is little to separate the teams as they have met only twice in the league since Benoni Premier United appeared in the top flight last season. The Rabbits did hand Santos their biggest defeat of the season, a 4-0 drubbing in October 2006, but the Cape team avenged that with a 2-0 win in February earlier this year.
