The home side pounced as early as the first minute when Gregoire Defrel seized on a misplaced pass by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Rossoneri ended the half in a strong position, as an added time header from Samu Castillejo draw a save from Audero.
The pressure from Sampdoria didn’t stop in the second half after Defrel’s shot in the 56th minute came off the outside net from Nicola Murru’s cross.

The openings for Sampdoria continued to conjure up on 71 minutes, as a shot from Riccardo Saponara deflected onto the top of the crossbar.
With Milan pressing for an equaliser, space opened up for the hosts when a shot from Samponara deflected off Donnarumma’s legs in time added on.
In the dying minutes, Piatek looked to have earned a share of the spoils for the visitors but Audero’s point-blank save ensured victory for Sampdoria.
