Reports from Botswana today have it that the Amakhosi are extremely interested in ‘Tsunami’s’ countryman Bernard Simakwenzi, who currently plays for Township Rollers.
Simakwenzi is tall and physically strong, has a powerful shot and is good in the air.
The hitman played for Zanaco in his homeland before moving to Malaysia. He returned and joined Botswana’s BDF XI two years ago before moving to Rollers in a cloud of controversy last season.
Although no details have been released yet, it is known that Township Rollers will be coming to South Africa during the current recess to play Chiefs in a friendly that was mooted towards the end of last year.
Hopes are high at the Gaborone giants that perhaps other wealthy Premiership club will want to buy one or two of their players.
Rollers have done business with South African clubs before. More than 10 years ago, they sold the then crack striker Joseph Chikoti to Mamelodi Sundowns and in the last three years have sold the likes of winger Jomo Moatlhaping, Phenyo Mongala (aka Mzambiya), and Mogogi Gabonamong to various Premiership clubs.
Meanwhile, Gaborone are waiting in anticipation for details of a four team tournament involver Jomo Cosmos and Supersport United, along with Centre Chiefs and Extension Gunners to be announced.
Details of dates, prize money and tournament format are expected to be released before the weekend.
Botswana international striker Dipsy Selolwane is expected to lead the Ezenkosi attack. He is one of Cosmos’ players lacking match fitness after missing from action for the entire first round of the League matches due to delays in processing his SA residence papers.
