Mazembe and Rangers were battling for the last remaining spot, with the ‘Teddy Bears’ taking a surprise early lead in the game. Yet Mazembe regrouped, equalising in the 17th minute through Christ Kisangala, the team’s highest scorer.
Kisangala put his team in front less than ten minutes later, yet there would be three more goals before half-time, Mazembe losing their two-goal cushion as Rangers fought back to make it 3-3 at the break.
Yet their spirits were doused in the 93rd minute of the game as Mazembe secured a late winner to progress to the semi-finals.
The second match of the day was between SA national U-19 and Fluminense FC which resulted in a six-goal thriller which went the way of the South Africans, their 4-2 continuing their unbeaten streak as they marched into the last four.
They will face Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon for a spot in the final, as Mazembe take on English giants Arsenal.
Both matches will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday.
