Soweto giants are not at full strength

The Soweto giants have both been pitted against Natal opponents. Chiefs play Golden Arrows and Bucs are up against AmaZulu in their first round at Chatsworth Stadium.

Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral tells that they are already in Durban, minus Jonathan Quartey, Shaun Bartlett and Derrick Spencer.

“Both Quartey and Spencer are not part of the team in Durban as they still recovering from injuries. Bartlett is still sick and has been left behind in Johannesburg.”

“With the exception of the trio, everybody else is available for selection.

“I will continue with my policy during this break to give the stage to the youngsters because this kind of tournament gives me opportunity to see how they adapt playing at the top level.

“They have this tournament and next week to prove that they deserve to wear the first team jersey when the league resumes after the Afcon tournament.

In the absence of Itumelang Khune (in Ghana) and Markus Bocskor who is still under going rehabilitation, Ertugral tells that he has brought along a youngster from the team’s development to stand in behind Emile Baron during the tournament.

Pirates’ manager Shakes Mashaba has announced that goalkeeper coach Pierre Mbarga will be in charge of the Buccaneers’ team on Saturday in the absence of coach Owen da Gama, who will be attending his father’s burial.

“Mbanga will be assisted by John Williams. I will also be there to give assistance where needed. I want to promise our fans in KwaZulu\Natal that we are taking this tournament seriously and will not disappoint them on Saturday.”

“Apart from our players in Ghana, we only have Lucky Lekgwathi and Tico Tico out of the tournament. Both players are still recovering from injuries.”
