Diyo Sibisi scored his eighth goal of the season as the Free State side continued their impressive form in their return to the Absa Premiership.
Kennedy Mweene was the hero for the home team, making a string of miraculous saves to keep a clean sheet. In the 23rd minute he did well to block Katlego Mphela’s shot from range.
Three minutes later, the Zambian goalkeeper was in action again as he brilliantly tipped a shot from Dennis Masina around the post and in the 28th minute instinctively saved Fikru Tefera’s dipping effort.
Supersport coach Gavin Hunt will feel aggrieved his team did not make the most of the possession they enjoyed in the first half. Sibisi made the visitors pay four minutes into the restart as he held off the challenge of Ricardo Katza before firing past Andre Arendse.
The striker had come on in the 33rd minute for Moses Mbuyane and showed his striking pedigree with his well-taken goal.
Stars enjoyed more possession after that but Sibisi was guilty of being caught offside in the second period. Daine Klate had an excellent chance to earn United a point but his swerving shot in the final minutes went agonisingly wide.
Stars continue to confound the critics and Goble Park is assuming fortress proportions with Stars having won all six of their home games so far this season.
