Supersport continue good form

The game was fairly evenly matched possession-wise, but Platinum Stars could not capitalise when they had the ball, and paid for their lack of potency when Katlego Mashego scored a brace in the second half.

Holland-bound Kermit Erasmus had a chance in the 15th minute, but his right-footed shot went over the bar.

Luis Renteria gave Platinum Stars some hope towards the end of the first half, with two shots inside a minute, the first, however, blocked by Siboniso Gaxa and the second parried away by Supersport keeper Denis Onyango.

The deadlock was broken with Mashego’s first goal in the 51st minute, which came from an Erasmus assist from the left channel.

Supersport’s second goal came from a penalty in the 79th minute, after Stars Tapuwa Kapini keeper fouled Dennis Masina in the area. The penalty was taken left-footed by Mashego to bring the score to 2-0.

The win takes Supersport to second on the log with 41 points, one behind leaders Ajax Cape Town. Platinum Stars sit in eleventh place with 26 points.
