Thanda, Swallows share spoils

James Chamanga scored for the Dube Birds, with Clement Mazibuko netting for Thanda.

The hosts should have taken the lead in the opening 10 minutes when Bernard Parker sent in a good cross for Ryan Botha, but the striker saw his shot blocked by Swallows stopper Aubrey Mathibe.

Sandile Ndlovu wasted a glorious chance to put Swallows ahead in the 11th minute when he completely missed the ball from right in front of the goal, following superb low cross by Chamanga.

Swallows took the lead in the 22nd minute when Alton Meiring put Chamanga clear with a superb through-ball and the Zambian made no mistake as he slotted the ball past substitute keeper Lance Niewenhuis, who had come on for the injured Mandlenkosi Tsengwa. Botha wasted another chance to pull Thanda level in the 24th minute when he shot wide from a promising position inside the area.

The score remained 1-0 at the break.

The visitors almost doubled their lead three minutes after the restart when Japhet Zwane supplied a cross for Chamanga, but his shot was superbly blocked by Niewenhuis.

Swallows continued to wasted good chances, with Ndlovu heading over from close range in the 55th minute, following another good cross by Zwane.

The Birds were made to pay for their wastefulness in the 71st minute when Mazibuko slotted home with a low shot from inside the area, to the hosts a share of the spoils.
