Thanda manager Thabang Gumede has confirmed that the 24-year-old Okétola, who was born in Nigeria and played for Kwara United during the 2007 season, is one of the players that they will sign during the transfer window period which opened this week.
“We are definitely signing Okétola. The paperwork will be finalised before the end of this week. With Okétola signing, our defence will be complete and we can now look forward to strengthening the other departments.
Okétola was part of the Beninese 2004 African Nations Cup team that played against South Africa, Morocco and Nigeria in Group D in Tunisia. Both Bafana Bafana and Benin went out in the first round of competition.
Benin did not qualify for the 2006 showpiece in Egypt but are in Group B in Ghana this year along with Nigeria, Mali and Ivory Coast.
Gumede also disclosed to KickOff.com that his team was interested in signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Emmanuel ‘Scara’ Ngobese but that Black Leopards had beaten them to it.
Gumede also confirmed that Thanda Royal Zulu had put five players on transfer.
“We won’t disclose their names to the media until we finalise everything with their respective agents.”
