Thulani Serero misses start of Ajax Amsterdam preseason training

Serero limped off after 25 minutes of Bafana Bafana’s 4-0 victory over Gambia in an African Nations Cup qualifier on June 4.

He has still not recovered and was absent as Ajax returned for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

It has also been confirmed that he is actively seeking a new club with a year remaining on his Ajax contract.

With game-time likely to be limited under new Ajax coach Peter Bosz, it is in the interest of both the player and the club if he is sold in this transfer window as Ajax would receive a fee rather than see him leave for nothing next June.

Serero has made 88 starts for Ajax since joining the club in 2011 on the back of a breakthrough season at Ajax Cape Town under Foppe de Haan.

At times the 26-year-old was a regular under former coach Frank de Boer, but by the end of last season was the third-oldest outfield player at a club that prides itself on youth.

He has also been best by injuries in the last 18 months that have limited his appearances.
