Despite recently extending his contract with the Urban Warriors, it seems Ajax have activated a clause in the Fin’s contract and cashed in on their star keeper for an undisclosed fee.
According to our sources, Jaakkola's agent Sander Westerveld has a kept in close contact with his compatriot and Reading's new manager Jaap Stam to ensure his client’s move to the championship side materialised.
"Everything happened very fast but yes, Anssi is gone and will be joining Reading," said the source. “It obviously helped that Sander and Jaap played together for Holland.”
The Royals, as Reading FC are better known, departed for their pre-season tour to Holland on Sunday, with Jaakkola expected to meet up with his new teammates there.
Stam was appointed as manager a month ago following the dismissal of Brian McDermott after the side finished 17th in England’s second tier.
